The abbreviation RLU means that the stove has a 100% gas-tight external air supply to the combustion chamber.
This is also proven by the certification according to the German Building Standard (DIBt).
In practice, this means that the stove is perfectly sealed against the room in which it stands. If you are not currently heating the stove, the heat from the house does not leak out through the stove.
Stoves with the RLU pictogram are therefore definitely not 'draughty' and you won't hear the melusine from the chimney.
Their design makes them ideal for low-energy and especially passive houses. The stove meets the conditions of the Blower-door test.
In some pellet stove models, the certified gas-tightness can be marked with the abbreviation PGI. Stoves with the PGI marking have the same characteristics compared to RLU, the only difference is the building standard to which they are certified.
